Scientient Collective

We are pleased to welcome Sentient Collective the Cumming Harvest market…

Sentient Collective promotes social well-being and connectedness by facilitating and promoting the local food movement. By connecting people with fresh, local, sustainably grown food, they better their health while providing opportunities for farmers and gardeners of all sizes and scales. Knate and Sam are on a mission to steward as much green-space as possible for the production of clean local food.

From the spring of 2015 Sentient Collective has been stewarding the land many of you know as Beeberry Farms. Some of you lucky few may have had the opportunity to come out to the farm and meet Knate and Sam! Sentient Collective is now managing all commercial and agricultural operations on Beeberry Farms! We are excited to expand on the berries, herbs, eggs and honey that you know and love from Beeberry as well as share some of our new and continued offerings with you. For example, one of the things we are really excited about is our upcoming fall C.S.A. We are planting every week to expand our availability and C.S.A shares will be up on the market soon.

In addition, it is our passion to provide the community with the knowledge and equipment to grow their own food at home or on a community level. Sentient Collective consults with clients to assess their needs and vision, interests and desires, and provide the best option for their growing plot. From garden boxes, raised beds, greenhouses, hydroponic and aquaponics systems, seeds, starter plants and irrigation, thrive can connect you with all the resources you need to get started on a path to nutritious fulfilling food & an opportunity to make a community sustainability effort. Sentient Collective has several options for people wanting to get started making an individual or community choice to grow their own food. We encourage you to learn more about this at http://www.sentientcollective.org/#!thrive/cjg9

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to developing new relationships with all of you!

New Field Farm's Online Market:  onions and more

Greetings,

Please note: I’m still hobbling around with a bad foot so it would be helpful once again if you could order by Wednesday night. But if you don’t, Thursday will work as usual.

We’re now harvesting Ailsa Craig and Tropea onions, as well as the first field tomatoes (if they don’t split in all this rain!). We’re also adding Banana fingerling potatoes

Both greenhouse and field tomatoes are now $3.00/lb.

For various reasons we’re still in a salad mix lull.

So far the basil has avoided the basil downy mildew and the second planting looks nice. It’s a somewhat smaller variety called Eleonora that is supposed to maybe, kinda have some resistance to the disease. But the first planting is free of the disease so I think it’s just luck so far.

The squash is also a bit sluggish, but there should be enough of one kind or another.

The second planting of cucumbers is slowing down prematurely. We should have enough for this week, but then who knows. There is a third planting and if summer returns we may get more in September.

Spinach and Bok Choy have been planted, and we continue to sow and set out lettuce.

Last night I chased a porcupine out of the cabbage and broccoli, but failed to catch him. Maybe tonight.

Thank you for your orders.

Tim

Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 Farm, week of Aug 9 2015

Lamb special still on this week, 25% off. Please place orders for your fall lamb soon.

Cami is doing cabbage rolls and quiches on a regular basis now.

We have tomatoes in varieties to wonder at: the cherry type in yellow, orange and red; slicing tomatoes, romas, and heirloom beefsteak, the kind we eat with bacon and mayo! Lots of basil too.

Bush beans are now in harvest: yellow, purple and green.

Special on Chard: free bunch with every order! Three varieties: Rainbow, Fordhook and Perpetual Green.

I have a Facebook page to repost really cool news and information, especially about permaculture, climate disruption, peak energy and now the Election. It’s going to be A LONG 11 WEEK CAMPAIGN. Maybe the real stories will get out, not just the posturing and propaganda. Yes I’m voting NDP.

I got one reply so far on the Local Food Challenge, so I encourage you to review last week’s post or go here for the scoop. http://www.resilience.org/stories/2015-08-05/talking-resilience-with-vicki-robin.
