Dawson Local Harvest:  The End-of-February Market

The DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST for Feb. 26th

The Last Market for February

HI EVERYBODY

Winter is winding down, March is just around the corner, and The DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST is beginning to rev up. There’s a couple of new features in
The Market this week.

First off, for all you coffee-junkies out there, JAVA GENESIS has a couple of 3-pack sampler Trios, the Dark Roast Trio and the Medium Roast Trio. These allow you to taste their fabulous roasted-to-order Coffees at the excellent price of just $7.00 per 3-pack.

Next, MY DAILY BREAD has a very diverse menu, so we like to feature different items to bring them to your attention. A very tasty pairing for breakfast (and snacking) is their Everything Bagels which do seem to have almost everything imaginable on them, paired with their Organic Veggie Cream Cheese Spread which makes for a truly scrumptious combo. If you like Bagels, you’ll love this!

Finally we have our new vendor FARM ESSENTIALS featuring their all-natural chemical-free Laundry Detergent in Home & Garden and their Orange Peppermint Hand Sanitizer, one of several new choices in Bath & Beauty. We’re using them ourselves this week and invite you to check them out as well.

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 7pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.

Have a happy and healthy week!

The Wednesday Market:  Time to Order

Good afternoon.

The Wednesday Market is open for orders. Please place your orders by 10 p.m. Monday. Orders are ready for pick up Wednesday between 3 and 6 p.m. Check the website for all of this week’s product listings. Here is the link: https://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

I just stopped by Freshway in Zebulon to pick up a few ingredients for some catering this week, and the store is packed with people. I mean, packed! As if someone said a blizzard is coming, except that people weren’t buying milk and bread. All of the registers were manned with cashiers, and the manager made an all-call for baggers to report to the front of the store. I’ve only seen the place so crowded this way a few times, usually only a day or so before Thanksgiving. So, what brought on this run to the store for huge cuts of meat and copious quantities of beer? Well, it’s the Daytona 500, of course!

A gentle reminder to those of you out there who are race fans, please place your Wednesday Market orders before you settle in for the long race. I hope your favorite driver wins.

Thanks,

Beverly

CLG:  Opening Bell: Eggs, Pork, Jellies, Kale!

Good afternoon!
Has spring sprung? It sure feels like it, but I’m going to wait a little longer until I set our my tender plants. Most of our Growers have greenhouses full of seedlings that will produce delicious food all season. You’ll notice that the selection of items available in winter is less than summer, but there’s still plenty of in-season items available. Check out over 500 wonderful items listed this week. Have a great week!
See you on Friday!

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!

Have a great week!
Steve

ALFN Local Food Club:  The Market Is Open

Dear ALFN Members,

Good day, the market is open. Please read on for some exciting new udpates.

First, we have another new grower to welcome to the market. Bob Wayne is a farmer in Scott, Arkansas, and he is adding cold-pressed sunflower oil to the market! Look for more products in the future, but make sure you grab a bottle of the cold-pressed oil for cooking. He makes it in small batches for freshness and quality! You can find the oil under Condiments and Seasonings.

Second, thanks to all those who have filled out last week’s survey regarding Bulk Items. We had a drawing for three months of membership for those who filled out the survey before Wednesday. Congrats to Rita! If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the survey, please consider taking a moment to fill it out. ALFN is trying to gauge the interest in providing access to a few bulk items that cannot be found from our local growers at this time such as grains, flours and some legumes. Please let us know what you think and take the survey here: Bulk Items Survey

Finally, we have our final Saturday of February coming up…Community Market Day. We will have fresh coffee available and a chance to meet some chickens and talk poultry politics. The head of Little Rock’s Animal Services division, Tracy Roark, has suggested new regulations for city chickens. This seems like a good time to discuss the perennial pleasantries and politics of parenting poultry in the city. We will have a brief conversation about the suggested changes, Q/A for those interested in having chickens in the city and a couple of chicken breeds will also be strutting their stuff. If you’re gonzo about chickens, come by this Saturday!

If you haven’t had a chance to volunteer, consider signing up for a slot on our Volunteer Spot page. Volunteering with ALFN is a great way to meet new people and gain a bit of market credit along the way! Sign up here: Volunteer Spot

All the best,

Kyle Holton

Market News

Good morning!

ONE MORE week at Southern Stained Glass! Beginning March 2, we will move the pickup location to L & L Contractors at 25 S Public Square, Murfreesboro. This is a permanent move!
We thank Rod and Maura at Southern Stained Glass for providing the market with such a wonderful pickup location for many years!!

We will continue to announce and try to make the move as seamless as we possibly can! Thank you for your patience in all these recent changes!!

SEE CLICKABLE MAP ABOVE!

Linda at Dogwood Valley has added some beautiful potted primrose:

Because they are susceptible to summer drought, plants should be well-watered if rainfall is scarce. Do not lightly sprinkle with water every day. To ensure deep root growth, give a thorough watering once a week. In Tennessee, primroses are best grown in part shade; an eastern exposure with early morning sun or dappled shade is ideal. Since primroses prefer a mild winter, a sheltered planting area is recommended to moderate the cycle of alternate freezing and thawing which may kill primroses. They combine particularly well with spring bulbs and other early flowering perennials such as lungwort, rockcress and leopard’s-bane. Interplant primroses with annuals to provide summer color.

Botanical Harmony Farm has wonderful foaming goat milk hand soap in a variety of natural scents. The soap contains skin loving oils such as castor, sunflower and hemp to nurture and help repair skin cells while cleansing grime easily.

They also have skin polishing organic sugar scrubs to nurture winter skin in many natural scents!

Nom Noms Dog Treats has some wonderful hand crafted, natural treats for your beloved pets. No hidden additives, just delicious and with the health of the dog in mind, the treats are sure to be a hit!

ALSO Stones River Market has gift certificates listed! What an incredible gift to share with someone…. as a housewarming, a new friend, Mother or
Fathers day or just to something wonderful to share with someone who doesn’t quite understand “buying and supporting local” or whole foods eating.

Again, we thank you for the support of this market and the growers/makers who rely on you for their livelihood. What an incredible community this market truly is!
See you Wednesday,
